Dakhla’s tourism identity is strongly tied to wind sports. The official tourism office describes the lagoon and nearby coast as destinations for kitesurfers, windsurfers and surfers. For a useful trip plan, however, “Dakhla is windy” is not enough. Your experience depends on the exact spot, level, school, equipment, season and daily conditions.
Beginner questions
Recent kitesurf community threads repeatedly ask whether the lagoon is suitable for beginners, whether to stay in town or at a camp, how equipment rental works after lessons, and which spots become crowded. Those are exactly the questions a booking page should answer before payment.
Lagoon versus ocean
The lagoon is associated with flatter water and many teaching centres. The Atlantic side is more wave-oriented. A beginner and an advanced wave rider can therefore need very different accommodation and transport.
How to compare schools
- Instructor qualification and teaching language
- Student-to-instructor ratio
- Where lessons take place
- Rescue/safety procedure
- Equipment included and replacement policy
- Independent-rental prerequisites
- Transfer from your accommodation
