Morocco’s Sahara region can be visited year-round, but the experience changes dramatically with the season. Temperature, daylight and wind matter more in the desert than they do on a city break.
Spring: March to May
Spring is one of the most comfortable periods for desert travel. Days are usually warm rather than extreme, while nights can still be cool. Wind and dust events can occur, so a scarf and eye protection are useful.
Summer: June to August
Summer in southeastern Morocco can be extremely hot, especially in the middle of the day. If you travel then, activities should be planned around early morning and evening, with reliable air-conditioned transport and plenty of water.
Autumn: September to November
Autumn is another popular period. September can remain hot, while October and November often bring more comfortable daytime conditions.
Winter: December to February
Winter days can be pleasant in the sun, but nights in desert areas may become very cold. Warm layers are essential for sunrise, sunset and overnight camps.
